It seems

possible that there is some misunder-

standing by the Hong Kong Whampoa Dock

Company as to the effect of the China

Indemnity (Application) Act, whose main

arl

provisions can be briefly atlined as

follows. The remitted indemnity funds,

consisting of sums hitherto accumulated

and of future interest still due to be

paid, are to be divided into two

portions. One of these portion, which

will amount to approximately seven

million pounds, will be entrusted to the

Chinese Government Furchasing Commission

in London, through whom the Chinese

Government will place contracts for the

supply
